"Hollywood's A-list gave the family a standing ovation in an emotion-packed moment during the movie industry's biggest night.
Kate Ledger fought back tears as she spoke to her late brother from the stage. "We both knew what you had created in the Joker was extraordinarily special and had even talked about being here on this very day," she said.
She confirmed the Oscar statue would be given to the actor's three-year-old daughter Matilda.
His parents described him as a "compassionate" and "generous soul".
"This award tonight would have humbly validated Heath's quiet determination to be truly accepted by you all here - his peers - within an industry he so loved. Thank you," Kim Ledger said."
Congratulations Heath. Noone can replace the talent you portrayed. RIP
